O GAJO
Presentation of the records "As 4 Estações d'O Gajo”
"The 4 Stations of O Gajo", title that is inspired by the name of one of the most important works of classical music ("Le Quattro stagioni" - Antonio Vivaldi - 1723), consists of a work divided in four pieces, each with five songs, in which each piece will be named after a train station in Lisbon.
Rossio, Santa Apolónia, Alcântara-Terra and Cais do Sodré give the motto for the journey from where you leave Lisbon to the world. Not with a real destiny, certain and determined, but evocative of the many journeys and memories that inhabit the imaginary of the one who hears.
This four-part work invites the listener to experience the multiple spaces and emotional colors that are born from the plasticity of the Viola Campaniça and the creative universe of O GAJO, in all its routes, narratives and sound landscapes. Four parts of a dialogue with a line of creative continuity, and a body of work with different semantic amplitudes, in which the whole is different from each of the parts and each part is an autonomous whole with its own meaning.
Instrumental music of singular aptness for melodies that evokes a Portugality that goes back to a time before Portugal was Portugal, where Arabic and Mediterranean references live, coming from a past that we all have in our imaginary by the references that until today give life to much of the our modern and contemporary culture, and Viola Campaniça herself, for its structure, design and sound, is a striking example of this.
This collection features twenty unpublished songs that will be edited in four moments of the year 2019, making each of these moments correspond to each of the four seasons of the year - Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn.
A new language for an ancient instrument, which in its best tradition is reborn by the hands of O GAJO as a sculptor of free birds.
